Barbara Morris has extensive, global experience in the field of blood and blood products and provides consultancy and training services to meet individual client needs. She has worked for the Canadian and UK competent authorities, overseeing blood centre inspections for compliance with Good Practices, hospital blood bank inspections and inspection of plasma collection sites in the USA and Canada.

Ms. Morris has been a leading contributor to the development of policies and procedures relating to regulatory requirements in the UK, Canada, Ireland and other European countries and has trained inspectors in how to conduct the required inspections. She has inspected various types of tissue banks, from those collecting and storing fresh frozen bone to those performing aseptic manipulations during the course of tissue processing.

She qualified initially in medical laboratory sciences, covering haematology, blood group serology, biochemistry, histopathology, microbiology and virology, and has further qualifications in haematology and blood group serology. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences (FIMLS, now FIBMS) and has an MSc by thesis (“The Effect of Plasmodium berghei Malaria on Mouse Erythrocyte Membranes”) from Salford University. In addition, Ms. Morris has formal qualifications in business management and quality assurance management and is a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
