Environmental Surfaces Contamination Monitoring

  • Why Work with NSF?

Monitoring the cleanliness of a health care environment is an essential component of an effective infection prevention program. As your quality partner, NSF can assist with evidence-based, third-party environmental surface sampling and microbial analysis.

We validate cleaning processes and cleaning products based on microbiological sampling, the most effective measurable auditing method available. Superior to ATP or other current methods such as fluorescent marking, environmental sampling utilizing microbial analysis can give you the level of detail and assurance you need to verify processes and chemistries.

Our microbial monitoring services are comprehensive and can be easily customized to meet your needs.  We can quantitatively or qualitatively detect contamination on samples as well as identify specific pathogens such as Clostridium difficile (C. diff.), Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) and many more.

How the Process Works

Our microbial monitoring service of environmental surface contamination follows these steps:

  • Project start: We craft a custom proposal for sampling services designed to meet your needs. This custom proposal details a monitoring timeline as well as specific reporting styles, including either quantitative or qualitative analysis.
  • Microbial swabbing: We ship all the supplies needed to collect and track environmental samples collected at your specific environment or facility. Following detailed training, your team swabs environmental areas and returns samples to NSF for processing.
  • Swab analysis: NSF’s ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories have rigorous quality control systems in place to confirm the integrity of received samples and ensure high-quality analysis.
  • Third-party results: We provide a final test-only report tailored to your measurement needs with results ranging the spectrum from presence/absence to organism identification.

Why Work with NSF?

NSF uses detailed, third-party testing methods to provide you with the reliability you need.  We help from the initial stages of project planning though execution, and partner with you to complete your project objectives.

NSF is a global, independent organization committed to protecting human health and safety worldwide. NSF’s laboratories provide a wide range of testing, certification and technical services as well as human health risk assessments across all major industries. We operate more than 303,000 square feet of ISO/IEC 17025-accredited, state-of-the-art labs.
